[Scénic II] 4000 rpm at 130 km/h

I have a Scenic II 2005 1.6 16V.

Is normal that I have 4000 rpm at 130 Km/h and the car is very noisy? Why the fourth and fifth gear are so same? Is only a mine problem of anyone has a scenic II as this problem?

Thank you in advance
It is very strange that scenic II has a short gearbox.

In my Clio 2, i have the same thing except i do not find that it is noisy. Of course when i push hardly on the throttle the engine make more noise...

In any case, it's normal that you have 4000rpm at 130km/h with this engine and gearbox althought i think that renault's choice is not the best, especially in a scenic who doesn't have the vocation of sporting...

greetings

The strangest think is that I have the same rpm and the same speed on the Clio MTV 1.2 of 2000.
I don't understand... :?: :?: :?:

I found on Renault.fr :
- Speed at 1000 rpm in 4th gear : 26,02
- Speed at 1000 rpm in 5th gear : 31,99

So, at 130 km/h, you will have :
- 5000 rpm in 4th gear
- 4060 rpm in 5th gear

So, it's normal to have 4000 rpm at 130 km/h... The only problem is the noise... It's exactly the begining of the range which is very noisy with this kind of engine  :?
For the noise, it's better with diesel engines (about 2200 rpm in 6th gear)
Thank you very much

Bongiorno corsonehtml,

Keep in mind that cars like Scenic, Picasso, twingo and so on, have their engine located near the cockpit. So feel your engine more noisy.

buona sera

Merci Robocop91, but my question was about the high rpm engine not no the noisy. I thought that the five gear was more long and so I expected 4000 rpm at 150 kmh (more or less) and not at 130. That's all

I think renault put this short gearbox for the performance. 1,6L is a small engine and the power is just just for moving the weight of Scenic. I think the gearbox is longuer in the 1,8 and 2.0L.

With a 2,0l 16v, you have a 6th gear too !

Speed km/h at 1000 tr/min in 4th gear : 25,91
Speed km/h at 1000 tr/min in 5th gear : 31,60
Speed km/h at 1000 tr/min in 6th gear : 37,34

At 130 km/h :
5000 rpm in 4th gear
4100 rpm in 5th gear
3500 rpm in 6th gear

The 6th gear is really interesting to reduce noise ! Too bad, you can't buy this kind of gearbox it with a 1,6l 16v engine
I have a Megane II with the same engine (I guess aerodynamics should not make a big difference).

I confirm that it is 4000 rpm at 130 km/h.

For the noise... just turn the radio louder

Thank you for the confirmation and thank you for the very useful trick!!!

It's exactly the same on my 1.2L 16v clio ....

It's not a problem because it's not an highway car, but it would be better if I was at 3000 at 130km/h

With my old twingo, it was the reverse problem, the 5th gear was veryyyyy long !

But there are many cause of those short gear-box:

- The car 's weight in general increase
- Those motors are 16v, so you get the max torque 1 or 2 thousand rpm higher than in 8v motors
- So they put shorter gear box to have power, it's one of the principal, maybe THE principal default of fuel motors compare to diesel.

But this problem will be solve in futur-generation fuel motors, because turbo will be generalize on those motors as it is on diesel.

For exemple the futur 1.2L turbo 100bhp or the 1.5L turbo etc
Those motors will permit to have more torque, at a better RPM, less fuel consomption due to the smaller size (1.2L instead of 1.4L for exemple) and so a longer final gear and more silence, it's named the "Down-sizing"

lol

It's due to my english or to the technical information ?

To be simple: 16 V motors needs more RPM to have their max torque than 8v and than turbo, so RPM level is high on last gear to have "power" when you accelerate at a high speed.

I was joking, I understood perfectly but I was estonished for your technical knowledge.

Thank you very much.
