IRISBUS is the company which was created on January 1, 1999 from the merger of
the activities of vans and buses between RENAULT V.I and IVECO.
Irisbus ranks number two on the European market of buses and vans, behind the
German Evobus.
With a total staff of 6,200 people, IRISBUS represents a production of 2,300
vans and 2,800 buses, 1,400 chassises ready to be fitted a body, and 1,800
minibuses which is divided up among its five plants in Europe (Italy, France,
Spain, Czech Republic).
When it was created, Renault and Iveco both owned 50% of IrisBus. However,
after Renault V.I and Volvo Trucks'moving closer, the antitrust European
Commission asked of Renault to sell this activity.
Therefore, Renault's shares in IrisBus were sold to Iveco which now owns 100%
of the shares.
